Two teens were plucked to safety from a bridge abutment in Haulover Cut Wednesday afternoon, after strong currents forced them to seek safety.
It’s believed the two were in a kayak when something when wrong, and they were plunged into the channel. High winds had created brisk currents and the danger of rip currents on the beach.
A small fishing boat named the “Double D” tried to help the teens from the water, but they were unable to climb aboard, Instead, they made for the nearby abutment and clung there until a smaller rubber boat arrived.
The two were able to jump from the abutment into the raft-like boat, and were quickly taken to shore.
Paramedics were standing by, but the teens were apparently uninjured.
A Miami-Dade vessel appeared to have recovered a kayak that may have been operated by the teens.
Had a pizza party lunch at the park office. The secretary made a Guinness Beer chocolate cake that was super yummy. Had a bunch of Papa Johns pizza’s. Got a nice card signed by everyone. Had a great time. Great place to work.
I came home from doing some work at the park office and there was a boat anchored next to me named “c:/drive”. Is one of the best boat names I’ve seen.
It was a busy day for park rangers keeping boaters from going ashore at the park. First a weekend cruiser pulled right up to the swimming beach getting caught on the swimming boundary rope. Then a few minuets later a pontoon bout went around the corner and tied up to the rocky shore. Amazingly no one got hurt.

Last night the sailboat “Hoonigan” from Edmonton came and anchored super close to me. Almost right on top of my anchor buoy. I just don’t get why they come so close when it is a big open bay.
