A small sailboat FL4807BU that has been anchor back in the Oleta bay for the past year broke loose and drug across to my side of the bay hitting and getting hung up on a catamaran. I called up the park office to let them know and call FWC. I figured they would have better luck getting someone to come out and notify the owners but nobody has shown up in 6 hours. If they both break loose and come towards me I will have to cut there anchor lines so they dont get hung up on me. The catamaran owner showed up and towed it into the bay and reanchored it, then it broke loose again and drifted to the shore at FIU. The next day FWC came out and towed it back into the back and thru out the anchor with 30ft of line in 25ft of water. Im sure it will break loose again. Leave a Comment |

The darelic small boat adrift belongs to us
Sorry if it caused any trouble, it was anchored for a long time without any problem until one of the two anchors line got cut (it seems someone cut it with a knife). It was by chance that I found your video of our boat drifting off…too bad you did not catch a video of what happened before that. I really appreciated the various people who helped in reanchoring it, we had already a chance to speak to the FIU patrol (at another time when it beached itself in the FIU rocks) who told us what had happened.
Thank you for keeping this daily journal.
Greetings,
Your boat is illegally anchored here. The Florida State Park system has filed against it. Marine patrol has issued serveral violations on it. The owner of the catamaran that it hit is also seeking damage reimbursement.
The boat broke loose during a squall passing thru so your thereory of the line “cut with a knife” is not correct. If you did have 2 anchors on it they were obviously so entangled that they wore against each other. There was only 30 feet of thin line out on a small anchor when this occurred, the water here is 15-25ft.
Please be a responsible boater. This is a protected State Park, not a parking lot.
